Many automation tasks today demand a particularly high degree of precision, especially in the field of electronics. When it comes to positioning glass panels for displays, particularly gentle handling is required. Here KUKA entrusts the job to the LBR iiwa: the robot inserts a glass display into a plastic frame – for example, on a touchpad for control panels. With greater precision than a human – and without the use of external sensors or other equipment – the sensitive robot detects the edges of the plastic frame, determining the optimal position for this individual component. It inserts the glass panel with an exact fit, and can also maintain its position while applying a defined pressure, for example to wait until the display glue has set. Thanks to the LBR iiwa’s ability to cooperate directly with humans, it is also possible for the operator to feed in the display panels in unsorted magazines.
